A Little About Crystal Joy

Crystal Joy grew up in a small town in Massachusetts. Growing up in a musical family, she learned to love music at an early age.  It all started with Crystal singing her ABC's in front of her grandfather's church at a year and a half old.  She spent hours playing her mother's old upright piano, and eventually began classical piano lessons at age eight.  She started to sing in the middle and high school choruses. She was not always a fan of studying classical music. She had dreams of writing songs that would get her on the radio. Her journals were peppered with song lyrics and ideas.  It was not until attending Gordon College for a B.A. in music that  she truly branched out and tried her hand at songwriting.  It combined her passion for piano and her love of poetry.

Not long after graduating, she left her home in western Massachusetts to pursue her musical dreams in Boston. Crystal honed her songwriting.  What evolved from her experimentation was a poignant, eclectic collection of work stemming from personal experience and her empathy towards those around her.  Playing at open mics and bars led to a budding confidence in her abilities as a songwriter as well as a performer. Looking to gain experience on stage, she joined the Julie White Band which afforded the opportunity to play all around Boston. Crystal stepped away from that band to form her own band called “Crystal Joy.” Crystal sings and plays the piano.  Scott Lilliott plays the bass and Mike Daria plays the drums. The music is best described as folk-pop. She has been playing and writing for “Crystal Joy” ever since. One of her songs entitled “Prelude” was selected by Mercedes Benz to be used in an online commercial for their Viano Vison Pearl mini-van promotion.
